The 2019 research conducted by the Kenya Bureau of Statistics revealed that 32.4% of the 11.41 million households in Kenya were headed by women. This marks a significant shift from the traditional patriarchal society.
The increase in female-headed households can be attributed to various factors, including joblessness, lack of relevant skills, high divorce rates, domestic violence, drought, cultural injustices, and political instability. Consequently, many women are compelled to raise their children single-handedly without any source of livelihood.
